Haiti + Texas

I want to finally post a few more photos from the Texas trip I took back in November... but as I was editing the photos this week, I couldn't help but think of how trivial it all felt.  This blog, these photo shoots, the zines, the self promotion... it's all so fleeting, really.  In light of all that's happening in Haiti this week, tweeting about blog posts and new photos just didn't feel right... it still doesn't.

So before I get back to promoting me, I want to promote the work and vision of one of my dear friends Esther Havens.  She flew down to Port au Prince a few days after the earthquake, joining hundreds of photographers already on the ground.   Just like most of you, I'd been pretty in tune with the news coverage... the images are horrifying... the bodies... so many bodies.   It's been refreshing to see Esther's side of the story... it's less doom, gloom and destruction, and more hope, redemption & renewal.  Even a shot of fallen concrete, somehow hopefull with light shining from the rubble.

So just a quick shout out to one of my most talented, humble & noble friends... Follow her blog for stories over the next few weeks.

[ Decided to drop the images... go visit Esther's blog to see the whole story ]

And since I have them edited... a few more images from Texas 2009.

Thanks for reading + looking, as always.

Great photos Eric as always. It's very sad to see and to read the Haiti disaster.

The Texas photos are great. Once again wonderful presentation. It's more nice with the variety of subjects.

Regarding the Texas blog 6.jpg, the first picture is it edited later on PS, if yes can you share how is it done.

The heart cactus is a cool photo.

Eric,

Thank you for posting those pictures of Haiti. The work that photographers like your friend is doing will provide a permanent record of what happened in my country on January 12th, 2010 and hopefully it will discourage people from building unsafe homes so that the next time this happens the loss of life won't be as tragically high.

Thank you again
