Avedon in Albany
So excited about these images... huge thanks to the photographer for sharing.
Watt Casey Jr. is a dear family friend of Amy's... we've met a few times, usually camera in hand. Watt had the priviledge of being involved in Richard Avedon's "In the American West" series in 1979, when Avedon visited the Casey's home and ranch as part of his portrait journey through Texas & the Western US.
Watt sent me a few contact sheets from Avedon's visit, showing some behind the scenes, setup and Avedon working and conversing with the family. Even through these few images, you can see the pride Avedon took in really seeing his subjects as people, not just another image.
Anyway, here are a couple images of "Dick" in Albany, TX, 1979. Huge thanks to Watt Casey Jr. for letting us have a look. If you haven't seen the "In the American West" series... don't tell anyone... just quietly go HERE and get the book. Classic, classic stuff.

Laura Wilson (mother of Owen & Luke Wilson) also has a fascinating behind-the-scenes book on the project... highly recommend checking this one out as well :: Avedon at Work: In the American West

These are great! Love the way you did this. Watt has done such a good job of cataloging and keeping up with his
work and you do too!
There's a big Avedon exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Art these days. Saw it over the holidays.... Phenomenal work and very interesting guy.
